motor oil shelf life

the question comes up as to whether motor oil has a shelf life?

well oil had been processed and additives added, but oils basically millions of years old fluid, thats been heated strained , blended and packaged , I don,t see it like milk , going bad over a couple days, or even years if properly stored.
I bought many cases of Valvoline,Kendal GT, mobile one, and shell oil on sale at various times, and from various sources and some got used within weeks,or months some up to 4-5-even 7 years later and there was zero difference I could see,and I generally use a funnel with a fine strain screen so any crud in the bottles or cans gets noticed, now everything Ive read says motor oil stored in a cool dry place in original containers is supposed to be good for 5 years or more, obviously if yours looks different from a new can when you pour it then I,d be a bit suspicious, and check it, you must have gotten some bad stuff

now using a funnel with a fine screen tends to slow down the process of adding oil to an engine and its probably not going to filter out much in most cases but you might be surprised at times, and its always a good idea to make sure your not adding contaminates accidentally
