hey grumpys can I file rods to fit?

"hey grumpy? I way over torqued my rod bolts using the wrong torque specs,
I took the caps off and really looked close at the threads and they seem perfect, as do the bolts.I dont question the integrity of the threads in the rods anymore.
however. when reinstalled the rod caps and torqued to spec, when I re-checked the rods for play against the crank journals there was a noticeable amount of slack that I may have missed before, or the caps might have gotten distorted.
so as if the topic of over-torquing threads wasn't controversial enough, how do you feel about filing down the caps a little bit to fit the crank better? "

I hope your either kidding or just looking to create controversy, your talking about re-use of what is obviously a damaged/distorted and over stressed component, that operates at very high stress levels, ID ALSO be using a MIC, plasti-gauge and a few tools rather than guessing at clearances, and Id personally just pitch the suspect rods in a dumpster and get new rods and bearings, because the cost of new rods is about twice what it may cost to refurbish old rods and install new ARP rod bolts and if you went that route it would result in rods that are less than 50% as strong with LORD KNOWS how many years of previous stress, vs new rods and bolts that are easily 100%-200% stronger than stock connecting rods and thats not even getting into bearing crush or concentric issues, you can,t even swap rod caps on two nearly identical rods in a brand new set or even install rod caps backwards on the same rod without causing problems and its nearly impossible for even a machine shop to recondition specs on powdered metal rods if thats what your dealing with.
